It is always wise to carry out a vehicle check on any second hand car before you buy it. Even the most reputable of dealers may well have taken in a car in good faith without checking the history of the vehicle and therefore any vehicle you buy could be harbouring a secret past unless you get it checked out.
However, it is also wise to carry out checks even after you have bought a car if you didn’t consider making these checks at the time of purchase. Whilst you may think it is far too late to do anything about it if the car does harbour a dark secret or two and that living in ignorant bliss will therefore be better, in reality there are many things you can do if you find out your car isn’t exactly what you first thought.
For instance, if your car has done a great deal more mileage than the display lets on, you may find that you need to make a few certain changes to keep it safe. Different checks will need to be carried out at different stages of a vehicle’s life and knowing exactly what your vehicle has or hasn’t done may ultimately simply make you a great deal safer in the long run.
Furthermore, you may also find that the service history isn’t as complete as it seems, and as such you may well find that serious repairs were not addressed in the way they should be or even that the car has been involved in a serious accident in the past that could be compromising the safety of your vehicle.
So whilst it is always recommended that you carry out a HPI check before you buy any vehicle, it is never too late to make those checks further down the line.
